Possibilities of utilization of boiler slag
Fialová, Gabriela ; Másilko, Jiří (referee) ; Opravil, Tomáš (advisor)
This bachelor thesis studies the boiler slag (slag) and its potential use in refractory materials industry. It concentrates its on chemical and mineral composition. Mullite parts and Fe2O3 probably lowers the melting point and heat resistance. During the work is proposed and experimentally validated a method for reducing the content of iron in the slag shares. Is observed the effect of the reduced number of iron units for the heat resistance of the material. The results are further processed and assessment. Thermal resistance was monitored using incandescent microscopy.
UHV-EC transfer system for electrochemical surface science studies
Jakub, Zdeněk ; Vanýsek, Petr (referee) ; Bartošík, Miroslav (advisor)
This thesis deals with the combined ultra-high vacuum (UHV) and electrochemical (EC) studies of selected iron oxide surfaces, namely Fe3O4(001) and -Fe2O3(012). The state-of- the-art knowledge regarding these surfaces is briefly reviewed, and importance of understanding these materials in the electrochemical environment is discussed. The design of the transfer system between UHV and EC environment is presented; individual features of the system are thoroughly discussed and the system is used for testing the stability of the Fe3O4(001) (2×2)R45° surface reconstruction in ambient conditions. The experimental results presented in this thesis show that the Fe3O4(001) (2×2)R45° reconstruction, utilized as an adatom array for single atom catalysis studies, survives both exposure to air and to liquid water, if the exposure is achieved in well-controlled fashion. Further, this thesis presents the first-ever atomic scale scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) study of the -Fe2O3(012) surface, which is important for photoelectrochemical water splitting. STM images of two surface reconstructions of the -Fe2O3(012) surface known to date are presented. A bulk terminated model of the (1×1) reconstruction is confirmed and a novel surface structure model for the (2×1) reconstructed surface is proposed. Adsorption studies of H2O and O2 on the (2×1) reconstructed surface are documented by timelapse STM.
Environment-Dependent Surface Structure of Fe2O3(012)
Navrhnuté zariadenie bolo použité na štúdium interakcie vody so známymi (1x1) a (2x1) povrchovými alfa-Fe2O3(012).
Magnetometrical and spectrometrical analyses of fly ashes from the areas with emissonal air pollution mainly from automobile traffic (near Prague's D0 motorway) and from industry (near Ostrava's iron-mills) with a use of meteorological data
Hrušková, Gloria ; Petrovský, Eduard (advisor) ; Kletetschka, Günther (referee)
The content of analytical part of this thesis is the study of airborne dust samples collected in places with its higher concentration: by the Prague Ring (D0 motorway) and near the Ostrava's iron-mills. In both places, automobile transportation or industrial production are the primary sources of particulate matter emissions in the air. Received samples of PM1, PM2, PM10 a TSP filters were obtained by a standard air pollution monitoring procedure. This study examines the relationship between the magnetic parameters of the samples, their level of concentration of metals frequently present in emissions from these sources, the total mass of the dust fraction in the samples and the meteorological parameters (for Ostrava samples). The magnetic properties of the filters were investigated by magnetometric analyzes using a vibration sampling magnetometer. The concentrations of the metals were monitored by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, the weight of parts of dust filtres was measured on laboratory scales.

Nuclear magnetic resonance in magnetic systems

Title: NMR in magnetic systems Author: Petr Křišťan Department: Department of Low Temperature Physics Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Helena Štěpánková, CSc. Abstract: Magnetically ordered iron oxides, namely magnetite, maghemite, hexagonal ferrite M or system Fe-B, with nano or submicron dimensions of particles are the main subject of study of the presented thesis. The materials were investigated mainly by 57 Fe nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The results were thoroughly analyzed and compared with the results obtained by other methods (Mössbauer spectroscopy, ZFC/FC magnetic measurement, X-ray diffraction or TEM). In case of the maghemite nanoparticles a regular distribution of vacancies in octahedral positions was verified by the help of NMR in external magnetic fields and at various temperatures. The experi- mental results were also compared with ab-initio calculations. In thin layers of barium M type hexaferrite, effects of reduced particle size on 57 Fe NMR spectra were observed. The NMR methods were also successfully applied to investigation of system FeMoCuB of amorphous and nanocrystalline ribbons, where 57 Fe NMR was able to resolve formation of different phases in depen- dence on the process of preparation. Due to different NMR excitation condi- tions of signal from strontium M type hexaferrite and maghemite,...
